Safe trading tips

For buyers

• Never transfer money or a deposit before you have seen the item. Scams most often start with “pay first, we’ll ship it”.
• Meet in a busy place during the day, for example in front of a minimarket or a police station.
• Inspect the item carefully. For vehicles, match the frame and engine numbers with the STNK and BPKB (vehicle papers).
• Be wary of prices far below market value.
• Never give anyone an OTP code, PIN or password.

For sellers

• Accept cash when you meet, or make sure the money has really arrived in your account before handing over the item.
• Be wary of “transfer receipts” sent as images; always check your balance directly in the banking app.
• Don’t click links sent by unknown buyers.

Shipping (GoSend, GrabExpress, couriers)

• The safest option is still meeting in person and paying on the spot.
• If the item is shipped, book the courier yourself in your own app (Gojek, Grab, courier service). Don’t use courier or tracking links someone sends you.
• Never pay “shipping”, “shipping insurance” or “admin fees” via a link or to an account given by the buyer/seller. Real couriers don’t collect money via chat.
• Sellers: hand the item to the courier only once the money has really arrived in your account (check in your banking app, not from a receipt image).
• Buyers: pay the full amount only to sellers you trust, e.g. with many positive reviews.
• berape does not work with any courier service. Messages from a “berape courier” are always a scam.
